Why Do Dogs Smell So Well?
Dogs’ noses are quite fascinating. Dogs can smell somewhere between 10,000 to 100,000 times better than humans. A human nose contains six million olfactory receptors while a dog’s nose contains over three hundred million and dogs have an olfactory area of the brain forty times greater than humans! The slits in dog’s noses help with scent. When a dog breathes, the air is divided in the dogs mouth into two seperate paths, one goes to the brain and the other to the lungs. When the dog exhales, the slits in the nose push the air to the side allowing a fresh scent to be taken in. Finally, the wet noses dogs have help with scent. The moisture on the nose helps with the scenting process. Click Here to See More Tips.
