The FDA issued a cautionary statement regarding a potential association between chicken jerky treats and the reported 70 complaints of dogs having illnesses like diarrhea and vomiting. FDA has completed extensive laboratory testing and has stated that no contaminants have been found. They have also reported that many of these illnesses reported may be the result of causes other than eating chicken jerky. The FDA also issued a statement that treats should not be overfed to dogs.
Smokehouse has all imported chicken products tested here in the United States by an independent laboratory. We test for melamine, cyanuric acid, e-coli, salmonella and tpc. Our extensive testing also includes a full pesticide panel.
The vast majority of communications that Smokehouse has received about the chicken jerky products are from dog owners who have been using these treats for an extended period of time and have no problems . The common theme for the few people that called us ,with problems has been overfeeding. Chicken jerky is a treat and is not a suitable substitute for a nutritionally balanced diet and may not provide your dog with the total daily nutritional needs that are required.
